What does the Bible say about lions?
Great question! Here's the answer:
The Bible says both positive and negative things about lions through many comparisons.
Lions are beautiful creatures. They are known to be the king of the jungle. In the Bible, Jesus is called the Lion of Judah (Revelation 5:5). Jesus is compared to a lion because lions symbolize strength, power, and beauty. Not only is Jesus our humble Savior, coming into the world as a baby to save us, but He is also our mighty and powerful King, who is going to destroy all wicked people (Revelation 19:16).
Hosea 11:10 describes God as a lion, "I will roar like a lion against my enemies. Then the Lord's people will follow him. When he roars, his children will come home trembling with fear. They will return from the west." God is our fearless and all-powerful God who will destroy our enemies. He should be respected and revered as the wonderful God He is.
The apostle Peter compares Satan to a roaring lion, "Be watchful and control yourselves. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to swallow up" (1 Peter 5:8). A lion's roar can be heard over five miles away, and it is to protect its tribe; however, the roar can do no real harm. Yes, it can be scary, but it won't hurt us. Satan wants to roam around and roar at us, but we can find comfort in God and His might.
Bible Truth
“Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not cry! The Lion of the tribe of Judah has won the battle. He is the Root of David. He is able to break the seven seals and open the scroll’” (Revelation 5:5).
“An evil person who rules over helpless people is like a roaring lion or an angry bear” (Proverbs 28:15).
“Daniel answered, ‘Your Majesty, may you live forever! My God sent his angel. And his angel shut the mouths of the lions. They haven’t hurt me at all. That’s because I haven’t done anything wrong in God’s sight. I’ve never done anything wrong to you either, Your Majesty’” (Daniel 6:21–22).
