Does the Bible mention a mermaid?
Great question! Here's the answer:
No, the Bible never specifically mentions a mermaid.
Mermaids are half-human, half-fish creatures that live in the ocean. Fairy tales have popularized mermaids, including "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen. Sailors, including Christopher Columbus, have reported seeing mermaids. Modern scientists believe he was seeing manatees and dugongs, not mermaids. A sailor who was hungry, tired, and who had spent months at sea could have easily mistaken these aquatic creatures for the popularized mermaids.
The Bible never mentions the creation of mermaids in Genesis 1–2. However, this doesn't mean they don't exist. There are many creatures that are not included in the Genesis account, yet they are still real. The main problem with the account of mermaids is that since they are supposed to be half-human and half-fish, then they would need Jesus to die for their sins. As fallen human beings, or half-human beings, they would need Jesus to save them.
Whether or not mermaids exist, we praise God for His many wonderful creations. God made the universe and everything in it, including all the creatures under the sea.

“It is written that ‘no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human mind has known.’ God has prepared these things for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
