What does the Bible say about zombies?

Great question! Here's the answer:

The Bible doesn't say anything about zombies. The Bible talks about disease and resurrection from the dead, but not zombies.

Zombies are a created concept, popularized by myths, books, movies, and television shows. A zombie is a fully dead body that has been "reanimated." This means they are continuing to move around despite rotting and decaying. They are supposed to eat flesh, move slowly, and scare people. Zombies can sound pretty frightening, but there is nothing in the Bible that points to zombies being real.

Many people believe the Bible talks about a zombie apocalypse in Zechariah 14:12, but this is not correct. The plague that God will strike upon people is not a zombie apocalypse. Rather, the Hebrew word used here means pestilence. In other words, a sickness. This verse is about a new illness that will plague people in the future or something to do with the advances of warfare. In either case, there will not be a zombie apocalypse.

It is also important to mention that when the Bible talks about individuals being resurrected, it is not the same as zombies being reanimated, as they are in movies, books, and television shows. Jesus was truly crucified for our sins and was fully physically resurrected from the dead (John 19:34–42, 20:26–29). He wasn't a zombie. He is God in the flesh, who overcame death and reigns victorious over the grave. All of the people Jesus and the apostles raised from the dead were also fully physically resurrected by the power of God—not by a zombie apocalypse.

Bible Truth

“When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house, he saw the noisy crowd and people playing flutes. He said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead. She is sleeping.’ But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been sent outside, Jesus went in. He took the girl by the hand, and she got up. News about what Jesus had done spread all over that area” (Matthew 9:23–26).

“Then Jesus called in a loud voice. He said, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ The dead man came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with strips of linen. A cloth was around his face. Jesus said to them, ‘Take off the clothes he was buried in and let him go’” (John 11:43–44).

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even if they die’” (John 11:25).
