Did Adam and Eve think it was strange that a snake was talking to them?

Great question! Here's the answer:

No, it seems that Adam and Eve did not think it was strange that the snake was talking to them.

Adam and Eve did not have the same upbringing that you had. They had no parents, and there were no other humans for them to talk to except each other. When the snake spoke to Adam and Eve, they would not have been alarmed because they did not know it was strange for animals to speak. Adam and Eve had only been alive for a short time, and it is possible that God had spoken through animals to them before.

We know animals don't speak, but Adam and Eve did not know this fact. The snake itself could not speak. Instead, Satan spoke through the snake. Eve was not afraid because the snake was speaking in a language she understood. While you and I would have been surprised to hear the snake speak, Adam and Eve were not.

Even though the snake's speaking did not alarm Adam and Eve, they should have stopped listening once the snake told them to disobey God (Genesis 3:1–5). Unfortunately, Eve was tempted by the snake once she saw the fruit was good to eat and pleasing to the eye. She ate the fruit and then offered some to Adam, and they both fell from grace because of their disobedience (Genesis 3:6–7).

Bible Truth

“The donkey saw the angel of the Lord. So it lay down under Balaam. That made him angry. He hit the donkey with his walking stick. Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth. It said to Balaam, ‘What have I done to you? Why did you hit me these three times?’” (Numbers 22:27–28).

“The serpent was more clever than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. The serpent said to the woman, ‘Did God really say, "You must not eat fruit from any tree in the garden"?’” (Genesis 3:1).

“Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What have you done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent tricked me. That’s why I ate the fruit.’ So the Lord God spoke to the serpent. He said, ‘Because you have done this, You are set apart from all livestock and all wild animals. I am putting a curse on you. You will crawl on your belly. You will eat dust all the days of your life. I will make you and the woman hate each other. Your children and her children will be enemies. Her son will crush your head. And you will bite his heel’” (Genesis 3:13–15).
