What is agape love?

Great question! Here's the answer:

Agape love is an unconditional love, not based on what someone does or doesn't do.

There are many different kinds of love in the Bible, and one is called agape love. This type of love is different from other types of love because it is unconditional love. It is not the love between friends, family, or spouses. It is a type of love that is marked by faithfulness, commitment, and a choice to love no matter what. This tells us that we have the choice of whether we are going to love with an agape love or not.

God loves us with an agape love, and we should love others just the same. In fact, this is what Jesus tells us to do, "I give you a new command. Love one another. You must love one another, just as I have loved you. If you love one another, everyone will know you are my disciples" (John 13:34–35). Not only should we love others with this agape love, but we also need to love God with agape love.

Agape love is the exact representation of who God is because God is love (1 John 4:8). God loves us based on His own being, not based on what we do or what we don't do. His love is steadfast, strong, and full of forgiveness. This is the type of love we need to develop in our own lives. Agape love can be spoken in words, but it is often shown in our actions. Through God's actions, He has shown us He loves us, and by our actions, we can show others we love God and our fellow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Bible Truth

“Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up” (1 Corinthians 13:4–7).

“He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your strength and with all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself’” (Luke 10:27).

“See what amazing love the Father has given us! Because of it, we are called children of God. And that’s what we really are! The world doesn’t know us because it didn’t know him” (1 John 3:1).
