What is the Golden Rule?
Great question! Here's the answer:
The Golden Rule is a teaching to treat others the way you want to be treated (Matthew 7:12).
You won't find the phrase "The Golden Rule" in the Bible, but it doesn't mean the concept is not there. The Golden Rule is a teaching of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount. According to Jesus, the Golden Rule is to treat others the way you want to be treated (Matthew 7:12). If you do this, you are walking in accordance with God.
If you want others to be respectful of you, make sure you are respectful of them. In the same way, if you want others to be kind toward you, be kind to them. By treating people the way you want to be treated, it will make the world a better place. If you have struggles doing this, ask Jesus for help, and He will give you the support you need.
Wanting to treat others the way you want to be treated is a natural outpouring of the Holy Spirit. He will work in you and provide direction. Rather than other religions that promote the idea of doing good in order to get good things, Jesus teaches us that we should do good because we genuinely want to. Sadly, even if we treat others the way we want to be treated, they might not respond with the same actions. Even if others are not nice back, we are still called to treat others with love, kindness, and compassion.
Bible Truth
“In everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you. This is what is written in the Law and in the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12).
“Do to others as you want them to do to you” (Luke 6:31).
“Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done” (Ephesians 4:32).
