How can I honor my parents?
Great question! Here's the answer:
You honor your parents by obeying them, respecting them, and showing them love.
Honoring your parents is one of the Ten Commandments, and God promises it will go well with you when you do it! But what does "honor" mean?
First, honoring your parents means obeying them. When they ask you to do something (or not do something), do what they say—even when you don't feel like it. God put your parents in charge of taking care of you, so He wants you to listen to them.
Second, honoring means being respectful. Don't talk back or roll your eyes. Speak to your parents kindly, even when you disagree. You can share your feelings respectfully, but always treat them with respect.
Third, honoring means showing love. Say "thank you" for what they do for you. Help around the house without being asked. Tell them you love them!
Your parents aren't perfect—nobody is! But God still wants you to honor them because He works through them to take care of you.
Bible Truth
"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12).
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right" (Ephesians 6:1).
