Should I go to a haunted house?

Great question! Here's the answer:

The answer on whether you should go to a haunted house or not mainly depends on what you mean by haunted.

When Halloween comes around each year, we get excited for haunted houses, trick-or-treating, and candy. However, sometimes, haunted houses might be a bit too scary. If a haunted house is just a building dressed up for Halloween with fun games and decorations, then it is fine. But if a haunted house has real witchcraft or other occult things going on, then it is not okay.

There are only two sources of supernatural powers in the world—God and Satan. While Satan is not the author of Halloween, he and his demons will use every chance they can to scare or trick humans. If something makes us feel uncomfortable, like a haunted house, we shouldn't go. We can go to wholesome, fun, and whimsical Halloween activities, rather than scary ones.

If we think going to a haunted house is a sin, then we need to stick with our conscience (Romans 14:22–23). All Christians have freedom to do what we want, but we must not use our freedom as a cover up for evil (1 Peter 2:16). It is better to follow God and walk in accordance with His Word, rather than to engage in something that could be occultism. We belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, not to the evil one.

Bible Truth

“Whatever you believe about these things, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the person who doesn’t feel guilty for what they do. But whoever has doubts about what they eat is guilty if they eat. That’s because their eating is not based on faith. Everything that is not based on faith is sin” (Romans 14:22–23).

“Do not let a woman who does evil magic stay alive. Put her to death” (Exodus 22:18).

“Don’t you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? The Spirit is in you, and you have received the Spirit from God. You do not belong to yourselves. Christ has paid the price for you. So use your bodies in a way that honors God” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
