What is Easter Sunday? What do we celebrate?

Great question! Here's the answer:

Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is the day where we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the grave.

It is common for people to associate Easter with the Easter Bunny, decorating eggs, and other Springtime events. However, Easter is actually about Jesus. Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is the anniversary of Jesus' physical resurrection from the dead. Because of Jesus' resurrection, we can rejoice and be happy.

The first Easter Sunday happened when Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus' followers had gone to His tomb and found it to be empty (Luke 24:1–6). At the tomb were two angels who told them that Jesus was not in the tomb because He had risen! This is the wonderful news that we continue to celebrate on Easter Sunday.

Celebrating Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday is what the holiday is all about. While it is fine to decorate eggs and do Easter egg hunts, it is more beneficial to spend time worshiping Jesus with our loved ones. We can make fun crafts about the resurrection and give thanks to God above for His blessings. Easter Sunday is a wonderful holiday that reminds us of God's love, kindness, and mercy.

Bible Truth

“Jesus then began to teach his disciples. He taught them that the Son of Man must suffer many things. He taught them that the elders would not accept him. The chief priests and the teachers of the law would not accept him either. He must be killed and after three days rise again” (Mark 8:31).

“‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. But he has risen! He is not here! See the place where they had put him. Go! Tell his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. It will be just as he told you"’” (Mark 16:6–7).

“The Son of Man came to look for the lost and save them” (Luke 19:10).
